Science
Science at Coodanup College gives students the opportunity to engage in stimulating and diverse courses that are designed to increase knowledge and understanding in a variety of relevant topics. Using the Australian Curriculum as a base, students are given the opportunity to demonstrate and improve their abilities throughout the year, gaining valuable skills and an appreciation for the complexity of the physical, biological and chemical world.
In Years 7-10, students spend a term focusing on topics that include physical, chemical, biological, earth and space sciences. The level of work difficulty is at the teacher’s discretion, ensuring that students are extended to their full capabilities, and students’ scientific inquiry skills are assessed as part of the outcome.
In Years 11-12, all courses are set by the Secondary Curriculum and Assessment Authority (SCASA www.scsa.wa.edu.au). The ATAR Human Biology course is offered to Year 11 students, and a General Integrated Science Program is also offered to Year 12 students. Chemistry and Physics are offered through SIDE. All experiments and investigations are appropriate to the course, and are not reported on as a separate strand, instead contributing to the overall grade.
